Regrets of a Half-Elf

Little is known about the warlock’s personal life. Some say the man never had an ounce of humanity in him, while others paint him as a tragic figure with more regrets than a single mortal life can handle. The truth, perhaps, lies in the middle. The companions he has left behind have all but dispersed into the furthest corners of Faerûn, and those who are rumored to have been close to him shroud themselves in silence. An understandable choice—if you treasure a life in peace. But it leaves behind questions unanswered.

Did Curumë feel guilty for the choices he had made?

Did he, in the wake of the destruction he had caused, look back at a life of failure or victory?

As it is, his tale remains a tale of caution: one that teaches us not to let our goals cloud our minds and to stay away from fiendish pacts and stubborn determination.

For, I ask you, dear reader, what is victory at the cost of ashes, tears, and destruction?

A Note, found in Curumë’s Trash Bin

The paper you have found is less a written note than it is a crudely drawn doodle depicting a smiling figure surrounded by multiple other smiling figures. The person in the center seems to resemble a poorly drawn Elf, while the others all appear to be of different races, genders and sizes. Under it, a line of text reads the following:

Soon.

Although the handwriting is almost illegible, the letters have been written fluidly, with a certain kind of urgency..

The Half-Elf Warlock

It has come to my attention that a certain Half-Elf warlock is meddling in affairs he shouldn’t have a say in — and at great danger to us all. His reputation is, mildly put, a steaming hot mess. Rightfully so, I may add: The man is a criminal, well known in the dirty rat-infested underbellies of Luskan and even beyond. If anything, it is a mystery to me how he hasn’t been put to justice yet. But I digress.

However you decide to deal with him, dear friend, do not listen to his lies. Do not take lightly his threats, either. He is a force to be reckoned with, and an uncontrollable one on top. He may call it freedom, but what it is, is chaos — and every good diplomat knows that chaos can be a dangerous tool to play with.

I repeat, therefore, with all the urgency I can find at the bottom of my heart: Do not listen to a word his glib-tongued mouth says. Do not let his wit provoke you and turn you into an icon of mockery. Deal with him as you would with any runaway rogue: prison or worse. By the gods, Faerûn will thank you.
