Caydranth, a Dragonborn cleric, was raised inside the Church of Tyr from a very young age and had originally been a strict devotee to the God of Justice, whom she believed held the only truth. Growing up, she worked as an assistant to her surrogate father, a Cleric of Tyr who served as a judge in Baldur’s Gate. Sheltered from the worst parts of the city, she prided herself on knowing that she was helping keep everyone safe. Nevertheless, in reality, she was soft of heart and often found herself faltering when her father would pronounce a particularly harsh sentence. On those nights, she stayed awake praying to Tyr, asking him to forgive her weakness. It was only when she had grown of age that she was asked by the Church to take up a role as a cleric in a prison in Cormyr. There, she was to serve the soldiers stationed and, as her father had prepared her to do, sentence the prisoners to their just punishment. At first, she was thrilled, but soon reality set in. She saw the suffering of the prisoners, heard their stories, and again her soft heart was at odds with what she had believed to be true all her life. This was when she met Curumë. Though they were at odds in the beginning, over time, they formed a close bond, which eventually led to Caydranth's decision to give up her faith in Tyr.
Curumë, however, would not learn of this until later in Luskan, although he did ask Caydranth to come with him upon his release. She was not ready at the time.
The idea haunted her, however, and not long after Curumë’s release from the prison, she made her decision to forsake her former faith. It caused her grief and pain, and she knew she’d never be able to see her father again; however, she also knew it was the right thing to do, one that her heart could actually bear.
For a year, she traveled faithless and without guidance along the Sword Coast. She was a mess, broken and without hope, when she was found by some clerics of Ilmater. At first, Caydranth was wary. She had forsaken all hope in the gods and she didn’t want to have anything to do with faith any longer. However, as they nursed her back to health and mental stability, she realized that Ilmater was a god she could follow, one whose followers lived to ease the suffering of the poor, oppressed, and forsaken. Gladly, she joined Ilmater’s order and decided to offer her healing services in Luskan, a city full of thieves, outcasts, and wretched creatures. It was a place perfectly suited for her to right her former wrongdoings. And perhaps, she’d find Curumë there as well.
Eventually, they did have a reunion and through her kindness and selflessness, as well as her courage to forsake her belief to do what she personally believed was right, Caydranth made a lasting impression on Curumë, giving him a newfound appreciation for clerics and the virtue of selflessness. Her influence subtly softened his views, instilling a respect for those who dedicate their lives to helping others.
